Baby Axel: Melbourne family photographer
Brutal honesty here, I was nervous about this shoot, a newborn and 3 children aged 2, 4 and 7. If you have children or work with children then you know, they have a mind of their own. I can generally reason with a 4 and 7 year old well, speak their language but toddlers are a different story. However, these children were all just so amazing, beautifully mannered and a dream to work with. I think this is a true testament to their parents, I have quite a few friends with 4 kids and I honestly don’t know how they do it, so my hats go off to you.
Let’s talk more about this beautiful family though, because I’m so excited to share the moments and memories I captured for them with you. Baby Axel came into my studio at 5 days old, with his siblings and parents. After multiple discussions with the Mum, our session focus was not just on newborn photos of baby Axel but the whole family. Parent and children, sibling photos and individual portraits. The family wanted classic and elegant styled images, lots of creams, whites and some blues and greys.
Baby Axel’s siblings’ bounced into my studio excited and ready to go. After some chats about their favourite kids shows, how old they are and questions about their new baby brother we were ready to go. I always like to do sibling photos first, especially when toddlers are involved. Sibling photos with younger children can be tricky, we may only have short window for their attention and before they get overwhelmed, overstimulated and tired. That way after their photos are done, they can play, relax, eat or even go home with another parent or guardian.
Then it was baby Axel’s turn for his 1:1 session, he was brilliant for his siblings and parents all wrapped up and cosy. He did have different ideas though for the next hour, it’s okay I just let him guide me, looked at his body language and proceeded as he would let me, with what I knew would work. Newborn photography requires patience, anatomy and physiology knowledge, safety knowledge, appropriate equipment, setup and care.
After our session with baby Axel and family wrapped up, I briefly showed the Mum the images on my camera LCD. It helped to guide me towards editing her favourite images. I shared a few finished sneak peek images over the next few days and the family returned 1 week later to view their full gallery. Bringing this family’s ideal photographic session to fruition brings me so much joy. I also get to meet new amazing families regularly, I genuinely care for them and their children, so I make a point that each gallery and finished product is exactly what they want. I’m so excited to be delivering all the final printed wall art prints and bespoke linen album to this family in a matter of days.
I can’t thank this family enough for choosing me to capture the most important moments in their life.
