13 newborn baby gift ideas that WOW
13 newborn baby gift ideas that WOW in 2020 from a Melbourne newborn photographer.
Looking for that perfect newborn baby gift, to make that Mum to be feel super special and spoilt? The baby shower isn’t going ahead due to COVID 19 but you still want to send that perfect baby gift from isolation to the new parents.
Get creative and think about the person. Think outside the box and even how you can support small businesses in Australia during this time. I’ve attended a lot of baby showers and worked a lot of baby expos, the amount of muslins and blankets Mums to be get is usually 20 too many.
I won’t lie I’m not an online shopper, yes yes I know I said that. I love to look things up online and research a lot but I LOVE the experience of going shopping, especially living in Melbourne. I love looking through the baby stores, to see all the gorgeous newborn baby gifts and all the new things on the market since my babies were born. That’s not an option right now, so I did some research and found Australian small businesses that are still open, deliver and will definitely WOW the parents to be.
BABY GIFT IDEA #1
Baby ink impression kits that are neutral or personalised to gender. I think these are great, they will be something the parents can do, without the mess and have as a beautiful keepsake. Even better they are super affordable so either a great stand alone gift or an addition to a hamper.
BABY GIFT IDEA #2
A personalised custom print for the baby’s nursery from LFP collective, you’ll just need to wait until the baby is born though. However the wait is worth it, you can pick from a range of designs, put the bubs name and birth details on their and even get them foiled. You can pick one or spoil the parents with a series to decorate the nursery with.
BABY GIFT IDEA #3
Have you heard about Mizzie the kangaroo? Well Mizzie is your baby or toddlers new best friend. They have a range of educational books and an all natural kangaroo teether, which is super adorable. They have a range of gifts hampers to suit all budgets and even under $50.
BABY GIFT IDEA #4
If you haven’t heard of Violet Eyes then welcome. I found Violet Eyes about 4 years ago when I was looking at art prints for my daughters’ room and I feel in love. With girl, boy and neutral gender inspired art prints, these gorgeous pieces a baby gift that Mum and Dad will hold onto. PS her work was also featured on the block.
BABY GIFT IDEA #5
If your looking for an adorable baby outfit that will knock that Mum and Dad’s socks off, then retro bub is your go to. With retro, funky and super Australian designs there is something for all genders and parents of all tastes.
BABY GIFT IDEA #6
This one might not seem exciting but let me tell you as a parent who’s tried every brand of sleeping bag on the market, THIS IS THE ONLY ONE THEY NEED! Ergo pouch Australia range is by far my favourite, they cover newborn to age 4! Appropriate fitting sleeping bags help to reduce the risk of SIDS and hip dysplasia. The quality, range of colours and designs is out of this world. I used this brand on both my girls and now I’m passing them onto friends, looking tip top still after so much wash and wear.
BABY GIFT IDEA #7
A white noise machine, again maybe not exciting but ESSENTIAL. White noise can be used from birth until 2 years of age to help with sleep and soothing. I had one in the nursery and a portable one for the car/pram, bonus if you get one with a room temperature feature as well. There are a lot on the market I had the homedics one but here is great blog post from babyology on their top 5.
BABY GIFT IDEA #8
Spoil the MUM! don’t forget about the Mumma to be and you can’t go past organic skincare pamper packs! Your skin in pregnancy changes a lot from your facial skin to the rest of your body. I can’t pick one brand here, as I find everyone has different needs and skin plus every Mum is different, so I’ve come up with my top 3 small businesses in Australia to choose from.
First Biologi is revolutionary and if that Mum to be is suffering lots of facial skin issues, I highly recommend getting a starter/sample kit. It can take a few weeks to get use to them and then wow life changing skincare.
Second, I love Melvory skincare, she is a pharmacist and Mum so she knows what she’s on about. All organic and natural products for all things skincare from newborn to Mother. Melvory is the only skincare range that sorted my child’s eczema, after trying about 10 brands.
Thirdly Bubba organics, the aesthetic and the products are gorgeous. It’s hard to pick a favourite from the brand but I personally loved the lavender pillow spray and kids bath wash.
All these brands are Australian small businesses, organic, no bullshit and deliver results.
BABY GIFT IDEA #9
The stylish, lavish and practical present that will definitely wow the Mum to be, is a gorgeous bag from Toots and Co. When I was expecting I wanted a stylish and very practical bag, something that could also be used after that newborn phase as well. They have a gorgeous range of nappy bags, that don’t look like nappy bags.
BABY GIFT IDEA #10
Delivered COOKED dinner services, this is so undervalued but one of the best presents you could ever buy new parents. That first 12 weeks and especially the first 2 weeks with a newborn are a whirlwind. Healthy nutritious meals to fuel the recovery of the Mum are so important but it’s hard when your exhausted in every way. I have previously gone in together with a group of friends to buy a voucher to a local company that specialises in this. Then the parents can choose when they want the meals for and what type, its such a huge stress relief and especially right now when we are in restrictions and lock downs.
BABY GIFT IDEA #11
The all bases covered present, is the baby hamper full of glorious gifts that will knock her socks off. There are a lot of companies specialising in this and you may know one already, I like that you can buy something for Mum and bub so they both get spoilt. I found these companies in Australia that are still delivering during this time and offer something different from each other. Some do personalised monograming and some have champagne and flowers, what’s not to love. Gifts Australia, One little day, The essential baby box and Lvly.
BABY GIFT IDEA #12
The voucher, I know I know but honestly the voucher is great for so many reasons. Some parents to be are hard to buy for, have bought everything or maybe you’re not that close but you still want to get something. Get that Mum to be a voucher to her favourite shop, to go shopping online and spoil herself when she’s ready. Otherwise a voucher to a baby shop is brilliant, once bub comes along there are always so many things you realise you need that you don’t have yet.
BABY GIFT IDEA #13
The best gifts are ones that parents can hold onto forever and cherish and photographs are the best way. Contributing to a parents newborn and family photographs as a gift can be very meaningful. These are the baby gifts that will become priceless and truly treasured. It can be great way for the couple to buy more photographs than what they could have or afford that professional photographer they really wanted. I do suggest talking with the parents to be first and asking if they are having photographs. Currently Australia wide each state has different rules, so some newborn, baby and family photographers are operating and some aren’t. A lot of photographers are taking inquiries and as soon as restrictions lift will be open again, which is the case for myself.
When searching for that baby gift that will be perfect I like to think about the parents, the nursery and things that helped me as a parent in those early days. I think that even if you don’t get to personally deliver it, I know I’d love getting parcels showing up regularly with presents.
